Broome, WA. (Part One)

We had a quick 2 night stop to restock in Broome before heading North the Dampier Peninsula. We will be back for a longer stay in Broome next week. The crowds here are huge. There is a traffic controller in front of the caravan park at check in time to manage the large line up of caravans. We arrived 10mins before they opened and were 11th in line. Our van is also looking nice and dirty now covered in red dirt.

We found the local splash park pretty quickly as the sudden increase in humidity hit us hard. Zara and Elsie loved all the run through and slide down obstacles. While Bridie was happy playing with a leaf and a puddle.

We went for a swim at Cable Beach and it was the first swimming beach we have been to with lifeguards. The kids thought that was exciting. The other interesting thing was the sign at the beach warning of crocodiles and stingers, and then the emergency box of vinegar on the beach case you get stung by a stinger. They really know how to make you feel safe about going for a swim!!! haha.

We visited Malcolm Douglas's Crocodile Park and finally saw a Salt Water Crocodile, which was the one thing Elsie was looking forward to the most during our Big Holiday. She was even brave enough to hold a baby crocodile. Zara and Bridie were brave and held one as well.

We saw salt water and freshwater crocodiles as well as alligators and some very pretty birds.

Our tour guide was very entertaining and obviously loved his crocodiles and had a good relationship with them. One of the big crocs was getting old and was blind in one eye and going blind in the other eye, but all his other senses were still very sharp.

They didn't talk much about Malcolm himself, but in the office they had a lot of his stuff, including his car that he drove during his first film.
