Streaky Bay, SA

We started moving along the Eyre Peninsula - stunning but rugged coastline, headed for Streaky Bay. We had an overnight stop over at Elliston to try and catch a squid at the big jetty, but had no luck. The kids were still happy though because the caravan park had a jumping pillow and a games room. And they lucked out in the games room because the arcade toy/lolly machine was broken and was spilling out lollies.

We arrived at Streaky Bay and set up for a week here. We had an unpowered site right on the beach and next door to the playground. This was a favourite from our previous trip and did not disappoint this time around either.

Saul helped up get set up and then the next day drove over to Ceduna to meet up with John (Kylie's Dad) who was on a fishing trip with his mates. Saul stayed there for 2 nights and they caught lots of King George Whiting, Snook, Squid and a few blue swimmer crabs. Dinner is sorted for the rest of the week.

Kylie and the kids did lots of exploring on the bikes and by foot. We met a very friendly pelican near the jetty and we think it was him that came to visit us at camp the next day too. We meet some locals at the 'mums and bubs' Pilates class and the local mums where happy to have some new faces to entertain their young ones while we did our class.

We playground hopped around town and could easily spend another week here on the many playgrounds and jumping pillows. So much to climb and jump and swing on. The kids also really like the "sand art" activity at one playground - dogs, cats, cars. Such a brilliant idea and these crafty kids loved it.

We did have some rain while we were at Streaky but the bay provides a brilliant backdrop with very nice sunset and sunrises. Definitely no complaining here.

Once Saul returned we went for a drive around the area and visited the Sea Lion colony that lives at Baird Bay. It is a very harsh, windy location and the viewing platform is very exposed so we didn't stay too long but it is amazing to see these huge animals living their natural way in such rugged environment.

On our last night we had a little fire on the beach and cooked up the crabs and some whiting, and ordered a big bag of chips from the local shop and had fish and chips (and crab) on the beach.
