Mount Field National Park, TAS.
We left Strahan and it was raining again. We drove through the mountains and the rain and wind was still very strong so we just kept driving because we didn't feel like camping with horizontal winds at the lakes. We stopped and had lunch at the geographical centre of Tasmania. We were all quite hungry so we forgot to take any photos.
We stopped and did a little river walk along the way to stretch our legs and found a fun art installation hidden in the trees.
We drive through some stunning countryside, the hopps fields for Cascade brewers and saw our first sight of the TasHydro. We stopped for a few nights at Mt Field National Park, which has a great little campground right on the edge of the mountain. We are walking distance to one of the best waterfalls we have seen on the trip - Russell Falls. We walked up here 3 times - one of those times being after dark, dressed in pajamas and jackets and beanies in search of the glow worms. This was a very fun experience..and made a little bit spooky by the fact it was halloween!
The wildlife here was a little bit cheeky - the wallabies would come right to the door and the possum jumped up on the table and knocked everything including the stove and dishes to the ground. The next day we drove out to the Gordon Dam - a very impressive structure. We were in awe of the people who designed and built it in the 1960's in such a ruggard remote location. We walked down hundreds of stairs to be able to walk across the wall. At the bottom we had fun listening to our echos repeat what we were saying.
We did the Tall Trees walk just near our camp as well. The tall trees here a Swampy Gums and are extremely tall and extremely old.
The camp kitchen had the best few for doing the dishes that Kylie has seen for the entire trip.
