Esperance, WA

Image
Esperance lived up to it's reputation for the white sandy beaches and clear blue water, but unfortunately we saw a lot clouds and rain too. We still had lots of fun though. We did the scenic drive around town, but couldn't see Pink Lake for all the fog. There are endless little bays that would be great for snorkeling in better weather. They have a pretty awesome esplanade on the foreshore in town, with a skate park, a duck pond and a very cool playground. The slide was super high and super fast - Bridie came down and flew off the end like lightning. Maybe not recommended for 2 year olds. 🙈 We visited Cape Le Grand National Park and Lucky Bay. We couldn't see Frenchman's Peak at first for all the fog but eventually saw it a bit later and it was quite impressive up close. Lucky Bay gave us one of those WOW moments when we drove over the hill and you see the bay. Picture perfect even in the fog. We walked along the beach - t...

The Nullarbor and Eucla, WA.

Image
Kylie was very excited to finally see the Nullarbor for the first time ever. The South Australian side didn't take too long to travel across and had some very nice lookouts to stop at. Then before we knew it, the WA border was upon us, completely with Police and Quarantine inspectors all wearing face masks. We had to present our G2G border passes for all 5 of us (which took forever) and then inspect the car and caravan for any plants, veg, fruits, seeds, soil or honey!! We were a little bit worried they might take our shell collection but they didn't. Phew.  With all this drama and worry, we forgot to take a photo at the border. It's the police, act cool!! Haha. We entered at about lunch time on May 15th. Fast forward 2 weeks time when Victoria has a COVID outbreak, and all Victorians to enter WA after 12.01am on May 16th had to get a COVID test and isolate for 14 days. We were so very lucky and entered with about 12 hours to...

Fowlers Bay, SA

Image
After leaving Streaky Bay, we drove to Ceduna to fill up with supplies to start our journey across the Nullarbor. We were lucky enough to meet up with John as they were heading home on the same day we were driving past. The kids loved seeing Poppy and all the big boats. We drove through Penong and were all very excited to see lots of windmills. The kids have always had a things for windmills. Coming into town, we saw windmills painted yellow and black and quickly figured out that the local footy club is called the Penong Tigers!! Go Tiges. Elsie was very excited to see a BIG windmill with the same name as her friend Molly. The swing pump was also very popular. We definitely would not have a shortage of water if we had one of these. From Penong we headed to Fowlers Bay which was basically a little town built on the edge of a sand-dune. It was interesting to read about the history of a little town that seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. Back in the days of sailing, it was a major por...

Streaky Bay, SA

Image
We started moving along the Eyre Peninsula - stunning but rugged coastline, headed for Streaky Bay. We had an overnight stop over at Elliston to try and catch a squid at the big jetty, but had no luck. The kids were still happy though because the caravan park had a jumping pillow and a games room. And they lucked out in the games room because the arcade toy/lolly machine was broken and was spilling out lollies.  We arrived at Streaky Bay and set up for a week here. We had an unpowered site right on the beach and next door to the playground. This was a favourite from our previous trip and did not disappoint this time around either. Saul helped up get set up and then the next day drove over to Ceduna to meet up with John (Kylie's Dad) who was on a fishing trip with his mates. Saul stayed there for 2 nights and they caught lots of King George Whiting, Snook, Squid and a few blue swimmer crabs. Dinner is sorted for the rest of the week. ...

Coffin Bay National Park, SA.

Image
Coffin Bay National Park won our heart 3 years ago when we camped there for Elsie's 2nd birthday. It was a given that we return - look how big our Big 5 year old is now! We started off with a few big days to get to Coffin Bay. The kids were getting a little bit sick of the car but they are little troopers and kept colouring princess pages until the car stopped. Last time we visited the national park we drove into the 4WD campsite and were rewarded with the pretty white beaches, but we also got bogged in the sand so this time around we opted for the Yangie Campground which is all a sealed road and has nice big campsites but no white beaches at our doorstep. Instead of sand, there is a bay with a very unique ecosystem of marine and wildlife. As soon as we arrived Saul and the kids found some little crabs on the edge of the water. This was super exciting for everyone. The other exciting thing at the Yangie camp is...
